The Exhibition Course

A one-hour long course in complete darkness :
a
unique sensory adventure

What do our everyday objects look like in the dark? How can we judge distances if we can’t see?
To find out, visitors are split into small groups of 8, and, led by a blind or visually impaired guide, you journey through a whole new world of total darkness. Helped by a blind person’s white stick, you need to find your way, avoid the obstacles, and see the unseen... all in an hour-long course.

A game using materials and sounds during the course suddenly makes the visitor much more aware of their surroundings- objects that we usually don’t even notice in our everyday lives become landmarks and can be important to show us the way.
The roles of the blind or visually impaired guide and the group suddenly change: the guide leads them through this new world, calling on their senses, reassuring them of the way forward... The relationship between the group and their guide quickly grows to become a strong one.

And back in the light… the cocoon

Experience the daily life of blind people in a room in the light named "the cocoon" where numerous workshops are offered: write your name in Braille, play tactical dominos, experience a film with audio-commentary… here there are many activities which allow the visitor to discover everyday life for the blind or visually impaired, all in a lit space in the exhibition known as the “cocoon”.

This area is accessible for 15 minutes before the start of the journey through the course and then afterwards, though strangely many things seem very different second time around.

So that the visit maintains its theme of exchange and dialogue, the last part of this journey invites the visitors to relive their experience with the others in their group, and encourages them to write an account of their journey of discovery for others to read.
